I've seen a few pictures of people on here with medium's that look too small for them when they've been right between a medium and a large, but little information of being in between small and medium.

I'm about 5'6" (and a bit) with a 29 - 30" inside leg.
The small DW flux has only 0.1" shorter TT than my current hardtail, and I've recently reduced my stem on this to a 75mm and I'm loving the shorter reach, which makes me think that I really don't wan't a longer bike than I've currently got. However, the small flux is nominally sized at 15" which sounds way smaller than the 17" kona kula that I'm riding.
Having said that, the medium flux has a 1/2" longer TT than my current ride, which might make it feel too big (although I guess I could go for an even shorter stem ~50mm?)

Anyone got any ideas. I don't think I'm going to be able to find a small to try, finding any flux as a demo bike is hard enough, so I'm likely going to buy blind, and don't really want to end up picking the wrong size.

I had a medium dw flux. My inseam is 31 inches and the seatpost was quite long
to fit my inseam. At 5'10", a large might have worked better for me for non technical
stuff. my Daughter at 5"5'' fit fine on the bike with a 70 mm stem. I saw my old Flux
on ebay the other day. Orange with polished rockers, like new
a few cents worth of fitment

medium

My wife is 5'6" and always rides a medium Flux with 90 stem and inline seat post.
Gary Fisher proved out the longer TT shorter, stem thinking long ago, so if between sizes, especially on a XC style bike, go up a size and down on stem.

I would go with the medium. With the flux, you are more inclined to ride it more XC so that being said, you should definitely go with the larger size.

I'm the same height (avererage torso/inseam) and usually ride small sized bikes but the small 07 TnT flux i'm currently riding has always felt too small!

thanks again all. I've managed to get an offer of a ride from a kind soul who owns a medium. I'll be able to tell pretty quickly if it feels too big and will be a valuable bench mark.

Next problem.... finding a retailer in the UK.

In my opinion and personal experience I think it also influences the feel and comfort of each rider

I am 5' 8 1/2 '' ( 1.74 meters ), I've had Flux HL, TNT and DW link in medium and small size, I tested different lengths of stems and for me the small flux is the best feeling and performance .

I'm 5'7" with a 30" inseam and I ride a Medium 08 Flux with a 100mm stem. I rode a small Flux before I bought and it felt cramped even though the small had similar geometry to my previous full suspension bike.

I managed to get a test ride on a medium last weekend. It was setup with a long stem and narrow bars, but I could still tell the the frame underneath was the one to go for. I compared it side by side with my current hard tail and they were very very similar in size.

Exactly the same lenghts and i ride a Medium 09 DW Flux with a 70 mm stem : i feel all right.
I think that the wheelbase would be too short on the Small and it would be less stable at the high speeds we take on a full suspension bike. And i compensate the long TT of the Medium by a short stem.

I think you mean normal width bars
heee heee.... yeah, fair point. It's your bike, I guess that does make them normal. My wide bars are the reason that I came off my bike before Christmas and did my ankle in; maybe I should consider some narrower.... I mean normal.... ones for my new bike!

Thanks again for the ride. Looks like the contract stuff is getting signed so I might be able to hit the "buy" button in the next week or so!
