My '07 Rig has a slipping EBB problem and the front end creaks with the fork locked out when I pedal and also when I mash uphill. Either the chain gets loose or the EBB slides sideways to the right enough to make the left crankarm strike the chainstay when pedaling. It happens each ride now. I wiped some of the grease/sludge off of it and didn't replace it the last time I reseated it, so I'm assuming that is one of the sources of the problem.

Rather than take it to the LBS, I'm wanting to fix it myself. I'm just wondering what others use for their EBB. I suspect the handlebar/stem is causing the creak when I'm mashing uphill, but I'm not sure if it's the bar/stem or the fork that creaks when the fork's locked out. Has anyone fixed these issues without swapping out the parts? I've tried reseating the handlebar a few times without any luck getting rid of the creak.

From all the searching I've done, it seems most have swapped parts out to solve their problems, to a Carver EBB (almost $100) and simply upgrading the Bonty stuff.

I can live with the creaks, but this slipping EBB is being a major pain in the ass. I'm about to get some blue loctite threadlocker and slather it on.

I can't speak to the Rig EBB but my wife has the Carver EBB. It stays in place pretty well but like all EBBs once it gets some grit inside it creaks. I have to pull it and clean it regularly. I also own the first gen One Nine...same issue, a little sand in and around the EBB and the creaking starts. I just converted to the newer Niner external EBB and so far it is quiet.
