i think i may have more in common w/ these AM folks than the DH clan..
i love reading the stories and seeing the stuff you guys do. if i was 30 years younger i'd be over there, but this forum probably suits me better.
i built this bike up last year just for this kind of riding. it's a little heavy, but then so am i.

You cant post a pic of a never before seen bike (by many) and not give info, website, something. thats mean.


Cool looking bike, can you explain the bolts near the shock mount?

I think those are to hold the shock mount to the frame.

the shock mount is a sliding mount that you can use to adjust wheelbase and angles. the suspention is a bb pivot placement , hence it lends itself to ss or internal hub gearing very well. no chain slap, no brake jack. no problems. the most maintainance free bike i think i've ever owned except possibly that western flyer i had when i was 6. go to www.hairygary.com to see what he's up to.
also this bikes got a rohloff hub (14 speed) avalanche dhf w/ 8" and the frame has 10" in the rear. and it pedals beautifully although it is a little heavy.

Ah now why did you have to go an say that, as has been both stated and proven (it's called physics people) before all SP bikes have brake jack. Just because it's not noticable to you, doesn't mean it isn't there.

Oh and BTW, nice bike. Just out of curiousity has the shock shuttle ever slipped?

if this bikes got brake jack i cant feel it.. i've rode bikes w/ floating disc mounts and it feels the same. could it be that since the pivot is around the bb the "stifening" is felt in the pedals instead of the linkage. if thats true then you may not actually feel much.
oh , thats the keys to my shop hanging there.

no they don't. single pivots have inherent SQUAT (compression), which is the opposite of JACK (extension). this leads to the feel of stiffening and loss of traction, which is improperly called jack.

edit: i'm not trying to argue your point, because i agree. just the use of the wrong terms.

I like that sliding shuttle idea, especially if it means you could effectively change the rear shock for one of a different length and stroke and change the fork to have a different style of bike. Is that possible?

Got any pics of the non-drivetrain side?

so it's compression is it. i'm not very math headed i guess. but it seems like if the path of travel is unimpeded by the counter forces of shock linkages and wrongly placed pivot points than braking should not be that much affected. but thats just my pee braun workun.

No I completely understand that SP bikes squat. However to avoid confusion I prefer to keep using the term thats most commonly used.

Going forward, I will probably switch to calling it brake squat.
