i do as well. i run 32:18 which works well for just aboout everywhere i ride (durham forest, 3rox, freds farm, brthany)

32:18 spinns a bit sometimes on the flats but its just low enough to get up any of the hulls in the area.

since you brought it up - i have been working on chico racing to consider a ss division on their race schedule...while it wont hit the ocup circuit (could care less really) we could get one for the 8hrs and 24hr events...not to mention tuesday night series.

last year i had 2 ss teams in the races, only unofficially recognized division...i know there were 10 or 15 individuals scattered abouts too. this year i am looking for 6-10 (ss) 4man teams. interested?

my team for the 24 hour that i am in is usually made up of the guys that i work with but iff plans happen to fall in and you still have space avail i might take you up on that offer of a ss team

I put a 32X16 on today

Thanks for all the info. I went for a ride(the first ride on my SS)today. Man, do I have a whole new respect for the SS's. I don't have a too bad a time on the flats, but I die going vertical. I guess what doesn't kill you makes you better. I am surprised Chico doesn't have a SS catergory. I agree he should make a catergory for SS's.

i have a 32:18 alongside a 34:16, so switch between the two, the low is plenty low for anything i ride in sw ontario, but i also have a *gasp* 1x9 for big/super-hilly/semi-paved races....

we need to keep this thread running. at least walking.

i will be booking 2x 4man ss teams for both 24hr events, may have a couple of space for those interested. more importantly when you are submitting your registration make a note on it if you are riding ss. I will continue to apply pressure directly to chico for a single speed category...even if it costs me a few more bikes.

Single Speed With Chico In 2006

ok sure so (in theory) we have to wait until NEXT year but we have made some ground for single speeders in south ontario this coming summer.

next year for the 24 and 8 hour events there will be prize(s?) for the top finishing SS team(s)...b/c of the uncertainty surrounding ACTUALLY singlespeed numbers we will register in the usual categories (so low, 4, 5 corporate etc). those individuals and teams that are exclusively SS will be marked with an SS (not sure what it stands for) in front of their team name. i will assist adam/sean in following the SS teams progress and final standings.

when you submit your registration adam has asked that you indicate 'singlespeed' somewhere so that they can record it. you may also advise me and i will verify that all teams are accounted for.

take this into account when you compile your teams, you may wish to dump some geared brethren in favour of oversized bmx'ers. afterall my team of slobs should be an easy mark.

more info as it comes.

What about solos? I've done the 24 hrs of Summer Solstice the last 3-yrs solo on my SS (finishing 6th, 5th and 4th, respectively). I hope to get on the Podium for '06!

Great to see the SS-bug spreading! See you at Albion!

well...
ottawa seems to be stacked and therefore to be open to anyone in the (613) you will need to run the gearing of our choice.

at this point all teams and solos will be racing within the confines of the existing groups (as many challenged for overall). each team or rider will be marked with an SS or othersuch indicator. there will be no 'duplicate' prizes given out, so should you podium in the solo i will keep the jersey...

there are details to be worked out but right now the brothers ruppel have made the first move, now we need to fill the ranks - more riders/teams - more prizes.

36x18 is what I've used the last 3-yrs...can't see changing it now!

Lemme get on the podium first, then we'll talk ;)

Just another (of the many) reasons why Adam and Sean rock! And, thanks for your efforts, too.

Setting your sight too low. Go for the win Mike. ;)
Thanks for the encouragement, Matt. But, I gotta be realistic...I'm just not getting out or getting in the training I once used to. Work, Family, etc. have changed what I used to be able to invest into racing. But, I've learned a few things in the last 3 yrs of solo'ing, so I'm hoping to use this insight to help offset what I've lost in endurance, etc. and gained in weight...oy! ;)

Aren't there any dealers in Southern Ontario, I'm sure a bmx redline dealer could get it.
I doubt it...a while back, I was looking into the Redline cross bikes and called Redline's distributor in Canada (can't remember the name...call Redline in the US if you want it) and they only deal with the BMX line. But, things may have changed.
