Hello,
What shocks may I use on a X5 to get 6" real rear travel?
I think shocks with 2.25" stroke but I'm not sure, and length eye to eye?. So no manitou I can use, can't I?
Thanks

You must have the correct rockers. The year of manufacture also makes the choice of shock important. To get 6" of travel you need a 2.25 stroke 200mm eye to eye shock. On a 04 frame that only allows a Romic to fit. All frames built in 05 and later will take the DHX coil and air shocks. I use both and find them to be very good.
ajr, i have also heard that 04 X5 frames can accomodate the 2006 Lineup of Fox shocks since the geometry of the DHX shocks have changed. can anybody confirm or is this my imagination?

This may work because of the redesign of the piggyback. I will try one now and let you know.

I have just fitted a 06 DHX air to a 04 El Salt with 6" rockers and the shock does not hit the down tube when it is deflated with me pressing down as hard as I can. It may when landing a jump.

If it does fit the '04 X5, that could be bad news for my wallet next year!!!

Can I get 6" real travel with 6" rockers and a 2.25"stroke shock in a El Salt????

All these questions are because I'm considering buy a Ventana, but I don't know what. I have a K2 lithium 4.0 with 5" travel, but I'm looking for a 6" rear travel bike.

My first choice was the X5 with 6" rockers, but now I'm also considering El Salt with 6" rockers.

I'm 5 11" and 196 lb, I like technical trails, I'm a slow climber and a fast descender.

Wich one of these two bikes you recomend me??

Thank you.

I would go with the X-5 for that. El Salts were not designed, IMO, for 6" suspension and the X's geometry is better suited to descending. I love my X-5/6.

I agree here. I don't like the geometry of the Salt with 6" travel. The X5 with 6" rockers is a much better choice if you want that much travel.

This might be a bit silly but can you feel the difference in the way the bike rides over techincal trails with a X5 that has the 6" rockers but still using the standard shock which I believe gives you 5.3" of travel vs a full X6 conversion?
be careful of that...

Ive got a 2.25 stroke dhx AIR on my El Salt with 5" rockers. The seatstays can strike the seat tube if it goes through the full travel. I don't know about the X-5. I just use lots of air in the boost valve and full bottom out, and it never get close.
