I'm looking for feedback from all you Maverick gurus. I love my 07 Matic with the SC32 fork. I ride it every week and have for 2.5 years. I have the opportunity to get an 08 Durance with basically the same kit except of course the DUC fork. The buy/sell route will probably cost me about $750 net. The other consideration is that I'm 5'-10". The Matic is a Large frame and the Durance is a Medium.

I guess the first question is whether the M frame will work for me. I'm of average build (190 lbs) and 5' 10" as noted above.

The second question is whether the difference in the bikes is "worth" the money. I know that is pretty subjective but that's OK, I appreciate your feedback. I would like to know from those who have experience with both what are the real world riding differences between these two great bikes.

Thanks in advance.

i haven't ridden the matic, but i have ridden my friend's 7/5 both with the SC32 and the DUC32, and i made the transition myself from a klein palomino with an SC32 to a durance/DUC32 ...

the durance comes with the DUC32, right? i really liked my SC32 on the klein palomino, but the DUC32 is just simply a much more capable fork and has a better level of composure when the terrain gets rough ... this alone makes the upgrade worthwhile. paired up with the durance, you can put together a fairly light weight trail bike that's plenty tough ...

however, if you already have a long stem on the matic and that fits, then the smaller framed durance might not ... fwiw, i'm 5' 7" and have the medium with a short stem.

I've owned one of every frame that Maverick has produced, and I think you would be just as happy putting a DUC32 on your Matic.

As for sizing, the medium sized frame will almost certainly be too small for you. You'd have to run an extremely long seat post and (probably) tall riser bars.

The Matic aka ML7.5 is designed for the SC32. yes, you can put the DUC32 on the Matic, but it will not handle the same.

I would say to jump to the Durance + DUC32 will be enjoyed; The Mavericks with more travel climb better as there is less chain growth and the Durance is designed for the DUC32

Durance

Guys,

Thanks for your replies. I'm a little worried about the size but I'm going to hook up with the seller and give it a ride. I will let you know what happens.

Any input on sizing is appreciated. Thanks again!!

I'm 5'10 and ride a medium ML7.5 my buddy's the same height and rides a large Durance and a Med ML8. We're both happy. You'll have plenty of SO so it's more about the TT. These bike are plenty adjustable. Can't help with the DUC, I'm running a TALAS...

I'd go for the Durance/Duc32 combo. As for sizing, it depends a lot on where you live/what you ride. I'm 5'10" and 160lbs or so and I started out on a medium. I was able to get a pretty good fit although I had some trouble settling on the seat height/stem length combos. I was living on the east coast at the time and for the most part I really liked the bike.

We moved to CA and after a few rides I realized I needed a larger frame. My brain was sending my body the "prepare for OTB!" vibe a bit too frequently. I don't like the feeling of being on top of the handlebars with no room to stretch out. There are quite a few steep/lengthy/rocky downhills in our area and the extra top tube length of the size L makes a world of difference to me here. I am super happy with the size L in all terrain. I even noticed better climbing performance. I attribute this to a more balanced weight distribution over the frame. On the size M frame I had the seat set high enough that my hips etc were pretty far over the rear wheel.

Obviously this is just my $.02 - best to get out there and try them both, if possible.

Sizing

Joe_Soma - I ride So Cal also, mostly San Gabriels, etc. Pretty funny comment on the OTB vibe as I ride with OTB MBC!

I'm going to give the medium a try I think. I still will have the L Matic so I will be able to do a good comparison. At times I think I get back a little too much on the Matic and don't load the front wheel enough so maybe the M size will help? It could just do the opposite but riding will tell the truth. I think the Durance has the adjustable stem so I can play with that also.

Thanks for all the feedback!
