I have an '07 Iron Horse Sachem 6.0 with 6" of travel and a Fox Vanilla rear shock. The shock is a 7.875 x 2.25. Is it possible to put on a shorter shock to slacken the head angle? If so what size? I would only want about 1 degree.

You'll lose travel as well. From 6" down to 4.8" or so, if you go to a 7.5x2 shock, which is the next typical size down. You may also have issues with the tire hitting the seat tube or saddle at full compression.

Actually yes! Avalanche can build you a 7.75x2.0 or 7.75x2.25 shock. I run the latter. It's slightly shorter than the stock 7.875x2.25 shock that is stock. Of course it's not cheap, and it's a shock that's custom-built for your riding style, weight, and bike/suspension type. Their cheapest shock, the Montie, would still be far better than whatever you are riding now.
