From my experience all shops build wheels but not all do quality work.That said any experiences with shops within an hour drive from Harrisburg/Camp Hill area?

Bit further than your desired 1hr. radius, but highly recommend FreezeThaw Cycles in State College. Don’t let a half hour of drive time be the decision maker. I had them do a custom bike build for me a few years ago, and I see them doing custom wheel sets all the time as well. Check out their social media pages for examples. Bring your bike on the trip and hit up Rothrock while in the area.
FYI - Construction again on route 322 this summer causing some bad traffic at times. Look before you do the drive.

Actually they crossed my mind....great shop plus my wife travels to the college for work stuff a couple times a year.

There is a shop about 1 1/2 hours from you in Bryn Mawr, 19010. lt's an easy drive. Once you are on the turnpike, it's literally two turns from Harrisburg. I476 S > US30 E. This is a very high-end shop. They can build whatever you want. But it won't be cheap. l think it's worth the ride, or at least an inquiry. lt's called Cycles Bikyle (Kyle is the owner's name)

i'd also throw out that wheelbuilding is definitely an interesting skill to learn. i've laced quite a number of wheels up in my years of riding.
