Since so many of you were helpful to me when I was in the building stage for my Karate Monkey, I look again to you for guidance on a question I am sure has been asked before, but a search here yielded no results...

I am looking to purchase new shoes for use on my platform pedals. 99% of my riding is on asphalt with rolling hills. I'm fortunate to have many well paved roads in my neighborhood that are well lit at night and have almost no traffic after 8 p.m.

I'm looking for shoes that have stiff enough soles to transmit the maximum amount of force to the pedal without that squishy feeling that comes from some running shoes. Of course, I also want them to be comfortable when I am simply walking in them. I am not looking for deeply treaded hiking type shoes.

I am well-versed in road shoes and I have two pairs of SIDI's that I use with my frog pedals, but this is strictly for recreation.

So, suggestions please? Thank you again for all your help.

The best shoes that you can buy for platform pedals are 5-10 Impacts.

Sticky sole, never slip off pedals, stiff enough to transfer all your power, yet fine to walk in.

These shoes are more suited to off road style riding though.

North Face's

I've got a pair of trail running shoes so they aren't as clunky as hiking shoes but i love the grip they give me with the pedal. Oh and they're useful if you feel like trail running

PI X-Alp Enduros - not too stiff, not too soft, velcro/buckles like the Sidis, and they've got a cleat pocket if you ever want to want to use 'em with Frogs. the sole may be a little luggy for yer tastes, tho'.

Shimano MT-41s - great for walking or riding, you can always add cleats if you want, reasonably cheap at $80

I am compiling a list of these, hopefully I can find a store that has at least a few examples. If I can get the sizing right, I do not mind mail order.

More opinions are welcome, and thank you to all who responded.

Along time ago when I used to use cages, I wore Addidas Sambas. They are an indoor soccer shoe. Its what I had at the time, but they worked really well. The midsoles are thin so your foot is close to the pedal and they grip well. The basic models used to be pretty cheap to boot.
