Shipping; I chose poorly

Recently I ordered some spokes from a web store in Colorado and had then shipped UPS. 3-4 days later on a Wednesday evening , I realized I had miscalculated the ERD, and re-ordered the spokes and paid for 2nd day air without doing the math (no delivery on Saturday). The following day, I placed a 3rd order from a California web store and chose USPS Priority mail. Well the first order came in yesterday, the 2nd Day will be delivered Monday and the Priority mail will be delivered today (Saturday). My question is this, if anyone knows, if I had chose Priority mail instead of 2nd day, would I have received the second order today, or does does the fact the Colorado store is not in California factor into it? Further, even if not, does Priority mail make more sense regardless because it is cheaper and they deliver on Saturday?

That hurts my brain. I feel your pain though, shipping can be really messy if you need something in a hurry...

I ordered some bars from Chainreactioncycles in the UK. It goes out via something and when it gets to the US it goes through USPS. I'm glad, because I had to sign for it, couldn't when it came yesterday, but they are open on Saturday. So now I've got a new set of bars installed.
Did you request that it be delivered by a truck with only one gear, because I'm at a loss as to why you posted in the SS forum.

Anyway. USPS priority mail (and 1st class mail for small items under a pound) can be cheaper (a lot cheaper sometimes) and faster than UPS or Fedex under certain circumstances. The biggest problem with USPS though is that the delivery times are not consistent. Priority mail gets there in 2 to 3 days most of the time, but sometimes it can take up a week or more (I'm guessing they mistakenly route it with the parcel post packages). UPS and Fed ex are much more consistent with delivery times and if they miss the delivery date it's usually just by one day.

How about the wheels are for a track bike. I also post pretty much exclusively on this forum and I'm assuming SSers order parts also. Did I miss the memo on this?

I think I'm seeing your logic. However, since SSers use fewer parts, they probably know less about shipping that others. If I had to guess, I'd say the weight weenies probably order the most stuff. You probably should have posted there. But then again, the WW forums don't get quite as much activity as others, so even though an individual weight weenie should more than others about shipping, there just aren't enough of them online. So I guess you should post under the 29er forums since they have more activity than anyone. But then again, some of those 29ers ain't too bright, so i guess you have to factor that in. Plus, someone on those other forums might get mad if people start posting stuff that has nothing to do with their forums. Unless it was a regular on their forums, in which case I guess it makes total sense. Yeah, you were probably right to post in SS.
For smaller items that fit in those Priority boxes = USPS. Larger items(bikes, wheels, etc), FedEx. UPS just plain sucks (multiple items way delayed due to their incompetence, bike dérailleur hanger bent which they didn't help pay for, and packages seem to take the longest compared to fedex and USPS).
If the postal service says that it's supposed to be 2-3 days for a particular service, it shouldn't matter where the package comes from. It's on them to get it to you within the time stated.

I agree with p_nut. If it's a small package, such as spokes, then USPS priority mail is usually the cheapest way to get something relatively quickly.

And the original post made my brain hurt, too. Don't do that again. It's like trying to do a math problem on a Saturday. Just wrong... ;o)
when you said 2nd day air was that with USPS or with UPS?
I gotta figure that state of origin's a factor as well.

It was UPS 2nd day air; never again.

.
If the blue train A leaves Boston on Friday 3pm going west at 75mph with 126 passengers on board and the red train B leaves Los Angeles on Wednesday going east at 167mph with 203 passengers on board, where is Justin Beiber?
Yay math.no serious **** off if you couldnt follow that
or you could have gone to your local bike shop and not had to pay shipping and returned them once you realized they were the wrong length... but at least doing it your way saved you some gas money except now you'll have three times the number of spokes you actually need and will have paid for shipping three times :skep:
brad, if you bought my 29er spokes, i would've shipped them next day air to you. ;)

i ordered some DT Swiss Super Comps (292 and 293mm) for my 29er, but have since changed my mind and am building up a 26er instead. if these were the right size for you, i'd have given them to you for free, just pay shipping. :)
