Cable tension?

Shimano XT front derailleur question.
I just upgraded my girlfriends bike w/ an XTR rear derailleur off of one of my bikes and a new XT front derailleur. I'm using new XTR cables and LX Deore shifters.
I have both derailleurs dialed in and working flawlessly except for one problem. The front derailleur doesn't want to shift the chain off the big ring onto the middle ring. All of the other shifts are perfect: small to middle, middle to big, middle to small.
Any ideas as to what would be causing a problem with that? The limit screws are set where they need to be and the height is correct as far as I can tell.

same thoughts here, just keep loosing the cable tension slowly till it just shifts down and then make sure it stil shifts up smoothly - if it doesn't then u might have a problem, other than that sounds like adjusment is all that's needed.Call_me_Clyde said:Keep working with the barrel adjusters. The front derailleur is always the trickiest to setup. Make sure the outer edge is perfectly parallel to the big ring and that when the outer edge of the cage plate is directly over the big ring theres no more the 2-3mm distance between the top of the teeth to the lower edge of the cage.
The rings might also be a problem here. Bad shifting could be caused by low quality or worn out rings. Usually problems like that when the chain won't release and drop correctly for no obvious reason its a sign the they're the problem.
