Could anyone compare the new, BOA-equipped Shimano MW7 winter shoes with the old Shimano MW81 in terms of sizing and fit? From what I've read, the MW7 runs larger and one should size down compared to the MW81. But I've also read a few comments here and there that the MW7 still runs small/narrow as most Shimano shoes.
For reference, I wear US 9 street shoes, US 9 or 9.5 (mostly 9.5) sneakers, Specialized EUR 43 and EUR 44 in the Shimano MW81. So I wonder if I should try my luck with the MW7 in EUR 43?

2 US sizes beyond what I wear in the summer is what I go for in winter shoes. You can always build up the foot-bed with neoprene or other options, which tends to be the weak-point in these types of shoes, there isn't enough distance between your foot and the heat-sink cleat, so it tends to suck heat out easily, but back to the space, space space space when talking about winter boots, do not short yourself. Most people (myself included) make this mistake of going too small initially...

Can't help with those specific shoes. I have XC-501s in size 43, my usual (I also have Specialized 43s), and they are snug. I have size 44 Lake 303s and they work well with either thick or double layers of socks or both.

I own a pair of Shimano MW 81, but I replaced them with some lake 303s. I use the mw81 for the days when it's not super cold and break out the 303s when I need them. The 303s are much warmer.

Quick update: My MW701 shoes have arrived today. I went for EU size 43 (for comparison, my Specialized summer shoes are also 43). My MW81 are EU 44. Glad I sized down with the MW7. Even the 43 are slightly longer than the 44 MW81, though the MW7 in 42 would probably be too small. They are definitely more generous in terms of fit than most other Shimano shoes
