Is a short cage derailer only compatible with a road cassette? Or can you use it with a standard mtb cassette??

peachy-B mtbr member Join Date: Aug 2004 Posts: 97	ok since no one has yet posted any info on helping you out.... myb mine is more relevant. mine's a short cage XT. w/ a dual chainring and a normal cassette (34?). mounted on a 6" travel bullit. i have had no problem what so ever w/ that set-up. been running that since the day i got that bullit. i think the road RD are shorter than the MTB version of short... correct?

Put it this way... Who runs a shimano short cage, and what type of cassette do you use with it?????

i'm pretty sure that a short cage mtn bike derailleur is compatible w/ a mtn bike casstte. 34 teeth or 32. i'm just not sure if a road short cage will work w/ a mtn cassette. also are u running one or 2 rings in the front?

The reason I originally asked is actually a stupid mistake.
I wasn't able to shift to my lowest gear because I didn't have enough links in my chain.
But I fixed that problem.
..I'm a dumbass. Sometimes..

Here look. The chain is just exactly long enough.
