There might be a little play, but there is no free rotation before release like the current SPD pedals. This makes cleat alignment more critical to prevent issues with your knees (or other joints).

The PD-M737 are super durable pedals, and very rebuildable but the newest generation of the Shimano SPD's are superior in weight, mud clearance, and float.

I have a pair of the original cleats for those pedals. SH-50s. PM me if you're interested in them.

I used those cleats with some SPD-747s, but they didn't work at all with my new M970's. But the newer SH-51 works in the M970, but I wasn't able to test them with my old 747s before I sold them.
