Hi,
I'm torn between two bugdet sets of hydraulic brakes - hayes xc (6' rotors) and shimano deores (525's).
Hayes would cost me about 250$, while deores 200$.
Which one do you think are better? If there is a difference, is it worth the money?
I ride mostly typical xc, but I'm quite heavy - 240 lbs (and I'm not going to use 8' rotors in case I choose hayes)

one or the other, the savings to your hands and tendons will be worth it. Either will do you well. The Shimano set may modulate a bit better, but Hayes will serve you just as well.

out of the two, i would go for the hayes HFX Mag brakes.
They may not modulate aswell as the deore's (never ridden deore's) but hayes have great power, spare parts are available everywhere at good prices, lots of aftermarket bits for them etc...
checkout ebay, as there are regularly sets that selll for $150 or so new
