this is my first custom build after 7 years and im trying to install the shimano m8020 on the santa cruz highball and seems to me like the brake cable is positioned odd in that it looks like there is a kink. is this something to be concerned about or this is just the design of the newer xt. im coming from an slx where i noticed the brake cable is on the side of the caliper.

in contrast, my old slx caliper seems happilly comfortable on how it sits.

thank you in advance for your kind help.

its not ideal but I don't think you will have any issues. that's allota rear brake for that bike. 4 piston up front all day, but u can easily run a 2 piston in the rear.
Any suggestions? Mainly ride xc. This build is an experiment to see if can build it at 20lbs or less. Would prefer to stay with shimano.

I bought the brakes as a set so id have to return both.

Thank you.

Buy a single xt 2 piston caliper and mate it to your levers. Should be good to go
