Would be fine - it has a capacity of 41 I believe, your 10-45 cassette is only 35.does anyone know if I can use a a shimano xt8100 -sgs long cage with 10-45 cassette ?
(instead of the medium cage xt8100 gs)
thanks
Let me know how that goes, I tried using the 8000 series long cage with the 11 speed 51T deore cassette and it kinda worked - I ended up buying a 7100 mech which made it shift much better. The 12 speed mech had a much larger offset between the pulley and the pivot which gives enough clearance for the bigger cogs while keeping the pulley close to the smaller ones.Slightly off topic but Garbaruk sell a replacement cage that you can use to modify a rear mech for greater range. That’s not needed for 11-45 but maybe would enhance shifting. I want to put an 11-50 cassette on my bike. Currently running an M9000-RD (XTR) and it looked like a cage replacement was the cheapest best way forward.
My parts are ordered. Don’t have them yet can’t report real life experience.
Will do. Still waiting for delivery ATM.Let me know how that goes, I tried using the 8000 series long cage with the 11 speed 51T deore cassette and it kinda worked - I ended up buying a 7100 mech which made it shift much better. Are you saying the B screw needs adjustment on every swap? That seems like a bit of a hassle. I'm thinking of a second wheelset for bike-park with a 10-45t cassette but I don't want to have to adjust B screw on every single swap. Will probably stay with 10-51 then...it's fine, they make the medium cage if you run the 45T cassette and want the short mech to make it less likely to be torn off. B screw will need to be adjusted differently but I swap back and forth between the two cassettes on an SGS mech.
There is no reason to be afraid of the B-screw. It probably takes less time to adjust than the actual swapping of wheelsets. Are you saying the B screw needs adjustment on every swap?
