I've just replaced the rear gear cable on a shimano XT dual control system, and now the lever is not shifting up properly, it shifts up when you pull it towards you, but doesn't return to the neutral position. Sort of stuck down I guess.

Any tips on what could be the problem? Thanks in advance for any advice.

Are you sure the cable end went correctly into the fitting and is not interfering with the mechanism? Did you make sure to reset the shifter all the way down before inserting and tightening the cable on the derrailleur? How old are these shifters?
