I bought a brand new complete hydraulic Shimano M525 front brakeset off eBay a couple months back but the brake line is about two inches too short for my bike. Is this a relatively good brakeset or should I just resell them on eBay and look for something better? They were in impulse buy (got them $40).

I'm not into downhilling so maximum stopping power isn't a requirment. I'm just looking for something with more modulation than my V's and would like better braking performance in wet/muddy conditions. I'll still be riding a V in the back however. I've read about the M555 brakeset and they get mixed reviews. I'd like to hear what some of you think before I order a disc compatible wheel(set).

If this is a brake set worth keeping, do I need to Shimano fluids and lines or are they cheaply available substitutes available? I've priced lines and they're pretty expensive (about $30). I'd hate to pay almost as much for the line as I did for the entire brake.

Thanks for any info.

the 525 came stock on my bike and they worked pretty well, I replaced the front w/a 755 which does work better. I would stcik w/the shimano lines and fluid.

What made the 755 better? Easier to maintain, better modulation, more power, or less noise? I'm really interested because I've been seeing a lot of 755s listed on eBay but haven't taken the plunge yet.

TIA

Well Im relatively new to the 755's, and have only ridden them 3 times, so there not really broken in yet. Still their is more brakeing power and better modulation, maint and longevity have yet to be seen, but I would imagine comparable the the 525's.

I was gonna go saint, but I was able to get the whole 755 line, lever, caliper, disc and fluid for $90, the saint caliper alone costs $110 and all Ive spoken to said the 755 have plenty of stopping power, which what I was after.

I think you can get the 755, everything youd need to get rolling, for 80 at cambria. If you want more feed back on this brake there is tons under reviews and it seems to be well liked.

Thanks for info on getting the disks from Cambria. I've been looking around on eBay but that's a much better deal! I'll think on it tonight but those are the breaks that I'll likely get.
