I most likely should replace the acera but I want to see if it is even worth adjusting if there are anyadjustments to make.
The problem is: When I shift from 6th to 5th or from 5th to 4th the rear derailleur seems to get caught. It will not shift to 5th gear or if I am in 5th it will not shift down to 4th unless I tap on the derailleur or hit a bump as I am riding. The shifters indicate that I am in 4th or
5th but the bike is actually in 5th or 6th depending which gear I am shifting from. Is there anything I can do to adjust this problem or should I just replace the derailleur? Keep in mind this is a new bike wth all new components on it. I dont want to replace anything yet but if I have to, well then I have to.:D

iron bike - Never assume when a rear deraillure is doing something strange that it needs replacing. 90% of the time its just an adjustment that needs made.

Yes, it is mostly likley cable tension. This page explains it well, you do not need any special tools besides a 5mm Allen Key or 9mm spanner. You may need a Phillips head screwdriver aswell to adjust limit screws. HERE

Oh and no you dont need a new deraillure, but if you want lighter, better quality and better shifting and upgrade would help but is not nessesary.

Good Luck :)

thanks for the replies.

I messed around with the adjustments all night last night & it still seemed off. So being tired of the problem I broght it to a friends shop, he is going to overhaul the whole bike since I haven't had a tune up on it since I bought it a couple months ago, & I have well over 100 miles on it. I am going to wait on upgrading the derailleur for now, it allways shifted smooth & quick when I first got it so I will wait until next yr to make that decision.
