I'm finally making the jump to 10 speed. I like the 11-28 spread, and right now the 105 cassettes are cheap.

Are 10 speed shimano cassettes still fully-compatible with 10 speed shimano mountain shifting, as they were with 9speed?

Yes, fully compatible. The road cassettes are built much lighter than MTB ones so I'm not sure how they will stand up but if the gear range is good it's worth a try.
I've got 105 cassettes for two bikes I swap for easier double track and rail trails.

Thanks! Trigger pulled.

This is for a lift access only DH bike, so not exactly a maximum pedaling torque situation ( I don't race). Had fine luck with aluminum carriers on XT cassettes in the past, and looks like this 5700 105 cass has nice chrome-steel cogs.
