Shift R3 w/ Marzocchi 22LO

1527 Views 6 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  dogonfr
I just upgraded to a new 09 Shift R3.
So far it is great. I have not had much chance to get a lot of riding in yet as it is dark after I get off work.
But I have a concern with the fork.
Being a slightly bigger guy, 250+ I feel like the front is a bit low and soft for my taste.
Is it possible to stiffen up the fork so it rides better and sits higher when static.
I am not after a DH bike just a nice XC bike that does not feel like it is standing on its nose.
I was thinking stiffer springs and heavier oil but not sure and have no idea how to start or where to get parts. I really dont want to get a new fork on a new bike, plus cant afford any thing else.

Ideas ? Suggestions ? be nice :)

Do you have a compression adjustment on the left leg??
It has a lockout on the left and compression on the right. I don't notice any difference I'm compression though

I couldnt find a listing on heavier springs, contact Marzocchi direct and see what or when they will have a heavier spring rate.

Yea I have not found anything on the fork.
Drawings, schematics, instructions.
Marzocchi has a manual but does not cover anything usefull
Marrazochi doesn't offer heavier springs for this fork. A friend of mine has the same fork and the same problem. He had to upgrade to a better fork; one that would support his weight. There might be an aftermarket option but I wouldn't know where to start.

I know the last thing you want to do is buy a new fork just after you bought a new bike but it might be your only option. Wheel World has a nice Rockshox Tora 318 Solo Air for $189.00 that works perfectly with the Shift R3. I plan to purchase one soon for my R3.
Contact these guys and see if they can help http://www.dirtlabs.com/ they may ask you to measure the length, ID & OD of the existing spring. :cornut:
