I have to go down to Colorado next month for a wedding. My kid brother (I wouldn't dare call him my little brother because he is a fair bit bigger than I am) will be there also. We decided to bring our bikes along and slip away in the afternoon and get a ride in. We don't get to ride together very often as I live in northeast Wyoming and he lives down by Grand Junction. I have planned a little surprise for him. I am going to give him the singlespeed pictured below.

Here is a true Frankenbike that I built up from the pile of parts I have left over from other projects and upgrades. I spent about $30 building it up. I already have 5 bikes including a nice El Toro, so I figured I would turn my kid brother on to the joy of singlespeeding.

I painted the frame Monday and put it together this morning. I was out riding it this afternoon to give it a good shake down. It was a hoot. The bike rides great. Isn't it funny how you can get such pleasure out of something pieced together form unused spare stuff? I have some pretty nice bikes and this thing put a smile on my face. I cant wait to see the smile on my brothers face when I tell him to take it home with him.

The frame is an old steel Specialized Hardrock that I have had laying around for about 5 years. The rest of it is just odd ball stuff that I have pulled off other bikes when I was upgrading and a few parts that I ended up with in some trades. The purple front hub is probably the worst looking thing about the whole bike. It is a Dimension hub that was on my wifes Marble Peak when she bought it. It is smooth and the wheel is true so it has found a home regardless of the color. The rear hub is a Surly that was on my El Toro when I got it. When I had new wheels built up with Hadley hubs it became an orphan. Now it has a new home too. I was stoked that 16: 32 gave the bike a perfect chain tension. Everything just fell together. Good Karma I guess!

Anyway, I am stoked and just had to share with people that will understand.

I cant get the picture to load. Here is a link to Photobucket

if you can give us a ride update after your ride.

Thanks DiRt DeViL. I tried everything but I kept getting a message that the connection was timmed out. I even logged out and then logged back on and tried it again. I have posted pictures here before from my hard drive and that wouldn't work either. I finally just gave up.

Thanks again for posting the picture for me.
Excellent idea/gift!

Now for the hard decision; which trails you going to hit while you're there? Definitely want to hear a follow up on this story.
Cheers
