I'm thinking of going with a new XTR (M975) Shamino hydraulic brake lever, and shifter combo, some may refer to it as the Flippy shifters. However my friend said the shifters tend to wear out quickly and cause unwanted shifting.

Is this really a concern???

Sorry, I was at school and didn't have much time to type it up properly. My brain was also stuck in math mode because I was cramming for my control systems exam tommororw

Much better. Math can do that to ya. I haven't tried those things yet, will hopefully not be Shimanoed into it someday. I do know that a road brifter lasts far less than either a regular brake lever or downtube shifter....far far less. Can you say I need to buy more Shimano new and better technology every year?
