Sedona Fat Tire Festival- April 23-24 (Easter Weekend)

I have been given the OK to let MTBR mountain bikers country wide know that Sedona is having its first Fat Tire Festival on April 23-24. As many riders know Sedona's has fun technical trails that cater to advanced intermediate or higher skilled riders.

The end of April is normally an ideal time to ride in Sedona, due to its perfect climate at that time. Many riders around the country who are normally stuck in a crummy springtime condition at that time of year, might seriously consider giving Sedona a try ,to prove it is in fact a mountain bikers paradise. If you haven't been to Sedona in the last two years, you are in for an unbelievable riding experience.

I, and other Sedona locals, will be showing the attendees a great riding experience. As the self-appointed Sedona mountain biking ambassador my mission is to give visiting mountain bikers the best riding experience for their hard earned vaction dollar.

I am attaching one of my never completed information pieces for some trails and rides that might put a smile on your face. I have numerous other Sedona rides in Everytrail.com that might give you a more comprehensive review of our vast trail system. Just search under traildoc to get a full list.

I hear Ibis and Turner are on board, so it might give you an opportunity to check out a 5" or 6" rig on one of the best trail systems in the country.

As a side note the Sea Otter is the week before the Sedona event and the Fruita Fat Tire Festival is a week after.

Hope to see you at the event,

TD

thanks for passing that along - looks like the perfect time to visit the in laws.
BTW, those interested in Sedona, also, In March, Spring Fling 2011 is going on and one stop is Sedona. See the Aridzona forum.
I just went to Sedona. If it wasn't such a long drive I would do it again. Sedona has world class riding! When I first visited in 05 I felt the riding was mediocre at best, now with all the new more technical trails Sedona is one of my favorite places. Keep up the great work!

Thanks for the post. In the last five years the trail system has improved significantly. With the addition of the new Aerie trail the advanced intermediate loop potential has increased significantly, along with all the more advanced riding that is available.

Somebody suggested having a clunker race down Schnebly Hill Road.

What kind of ride are you looking for? Maybe I can suggest something.

You Sedona Guys Rock

After my last trip to Sedona, I made up a riddle:

Where can you get slickrock to equal Moab AND singletrack to equal Fruita AND scenery that beats 'em both?

You can probably guess the answer.

There are so many great places to ride, I generally don't go back to the same place unless it's close to home. Sedona is a rare exception to that rule.

Thanks for the nice response, but I think you may have over stated the slickrock part (what we have is cool but, I wish we had a little more), we definitely have the singletrack and scenery. That is why Over the Edge Bike Shops rent a house here each year for their employee getaway.

Anyone thinking of going to this? A little bit of a hike from Fort Collins, but could be fun.

4" or so at uptown level was the report I was privy to,,,,,,,,waiting to hear from a VOC local to see what he recieved in his yard. I had about 12" new by 3pm Sunday, to go with last weekends 25". Temps are going up again, will be hitting 50's Tuesday in Flagstaff, 47 today. Meltoff should be quick and some trails will be fine by Tueasday, others not until later in the week.

Things are coming along nicely for the festival. I am hopeful that Oak Creek Brewery will come up with a special Single Track Ale for the weekend. The Verde Valley Cyclists Coalition is the group putting on the event. For those flying in from cold far away places, be sure to check the accommodations page. You can do this without renting a car! http://web.mac.com/stonecropaz/Site/Welcome.html
It's biathlon season: A-basin then Dakota! DEEP pow above 10k, warm 60 degree sun and dry rocks below 7k. I would still love to be in Sedona for the festival but living's pretty sweet here this time of year.
