I am driving from Colorado to Alaska with my two bikes on Thule upright bike racks. Should I remove the seats and put plastic over the open down tube to keep rain out or should I keep the seats on and cover them with plastic?

I wrapped my saddle (leather) with a grocery store bag, secured with zip ties. I drove about 2hrs under a huge storm heading to Vegas. Worked perfrect. (1up rack)

Shower cap, gorilla tape. Nothing will hurt the seat but what a pia to take it off and put back on.

Do you not perspire when you ride? Ive never understood why I see people remove their saddles while on a rack when sweat is worst than any kind of rain or road grime.

Just leave it. If a seat can not handle a few days of weather it's a shitty seat anyway.

I'd cover or remove them, definitely not good for leather seats to get thoroughly soaked.

I never worry about my saddles, but they're not leather. On long road trips, I'm actually more concerned about the fine road grit that builds up on oiled components. Unless we need the seats in the Tahoe, we shove the bikes inside while on the highway for long trips, but still take the hitch rack for local hauling at our destinations.
