And can I just say...having Don Myrah come out and ride with us was truly something special.

I wish I had been there. I wish I had been there. Argh!

I went on my own torture hell climb, and kept thinking about this the whole time.

And to think I used to live just a few miles away.

Now for the results...

Thank you Rensho, Jeff and crew! What a great way to start a day! On my way there I saw a bunch of riders heading up, and thought wow what a turn out. I get to the start line and just a few people milling about.

When I finally made it to the top, what a crowd. I gave it all I had for the last couple of yards. Once the heartrate came back down then I could say boy that was fun.

I've sent the timesheet off to Rensho for official review - he'll probably post the results in a few hours.

I want to preemtively say "sorry" if I recorded your name wrong - besides you being out of breath at the finish after climbing The Wall, it was quite a zoo up there, with over 35 riders, sent in 4 waves, coming out for the fun. I didn't have time to determine if your name was "John" or "Jon", "Jerry" or "Gerry" (as an example). Sometimes I didn't even get your name, so I had to ask around "who just went by?" Hopfeully someone yelled out the right name...

Also, for those that were timing yourself, I know there will be a few seconds of discrepancy ( one rider showed 2 seconds faster than we did, for example) - I think that is well within our ability for acuracy and organization. Also two riders seem to have about a minute discrepancy - unfortunately we'll have to wait until next year when we have transponders, helicopters and TV crews set up ;) We don't think there's any issues with our time recording, but if there's any protest or desire to look into it more , diskus recorded every finisher on his camera, which has a time stamp - allowing for some cross-checking.

The good news is that, while these riders were in the running, another rider ended up as the obvious and clear King... As a spoiler for those that weren't there, Menso is the King of Kennedy, with a sub 28 minute time. Rensho should have all the official results soon...

I had about as much fun today on Kennedy that one can have climbing that hill, and I set my new personal best time up the hill (ugh !) :)

We need to do this next year or sooner, a cool day with a little moisture in the dirt might set some new fast times.

There must have been 40-50 people at the top by the end of all the climbing !

WOW,

I want to thank everyone for a great day! and for all the wonderful people I met!

Great BBQ!

Well I was the slow guy who left early and got to the top to take pics and vids.

The link below will eventually have my GPS track and pics of most of the riders including time stamps. ( minus Kings who I videoed) The time was synced to my GPS unit so should be accurate.

I have video of the Kings finishes and will eventually link that here as well.

Wow that was impressive Menso 27:45 ! and a big dude too!

To all the great riders! Thanks!

Mike

Special mention goes the the De Jong family. Menso, JL and Mom all rode up to the top in style.

Just for reference, Don Myrah trained on this hill a lot. As a 1996 Olympian, his best time up the hill was 27+ minutes.

Thanks JustJeff, ibikergal for taking care of timing.

The turnout was completely amazing. I expected less than 1/2 of the riders we got, as well as the number of Kings that showed was totally amazing. 10 Kings showed up to contest for the crown. The race for 1-2 was totally epic. The time doesn't show it, but Clark and Menso fought the entire time, trading off leads and attacks the WHOLE way. Only in the last 100yds was the King determined.

Congrats Menso. You're officially crowned KKC2007.

It was a real treat to have Don Myrah show up and race. Thanks to the BuyCell guys for getting the word to him and getting him out there. Not racing for 10 years, and then coming out to put up a 32min effort on a vintage bike!

That is <s>humbling</s> humiliating.

Have you thought about a "Lived through the 70's" category?

The hardest record to break might be the mom-dad-me combined record.

mom (jeannie) - 1:06:50
dad (JL) - 42:02
menso - 27:45

Congrats to the De Jong family.

Now if only we all grew up with athletic parents...
