I am looking to pick up a beater SS to train with and possibly run as a 1x9 down the road. In your opinions what do you think would be the best bang for my buck so to speak?

SE Stout (2008 $440)
Redline Monocog (2008 $500)
Religh XXIX (I can get the 2007 for $650)



edit - I can also get a Merin Hamilton ($490)

Main use would be a third of the time on the road and 2/3 of the time on single track.

The redline is not set up to be able to run gears, I think, unless you shell out for the Flight.

You can make the Monocog run gears.. Not to hard, just need to source out what you need. Greesy Comb Distributors has(or maybe had at this point) chain tugs that had a built in hanger. That or get a wheel built with a Saint hub.

I don't think you could go wrong with either - just ensure you get a good fit.

I've got a Redline Monocog Flight and it's got a super ride, comes with cable stops and you can get a replacement dropout w/ a derailleur hanger. It's serving as my commuter bike right now, 1x9 w/ 700x35 tires.

the flight really isn't all that much more...you get discs and paragon style dropouts. definitely the route i'm going.
