Hi fellow Scott riders. I'm eyeing a '21 Scott Scale 900 RC and hoping to get any sizing recommendations from people with experience on these bikes.
My dimensions are:
Height: 5' 9.75" (177cm)
Inseam: 31.75" (81cm)
Arms: 23" (58.5cm)

According to the Scott website sizing calculator I'm at the very high end of a Medium, but also on the bubble of a Large. I plan to use this bike mostly for longer, probably less-technical, and multi-day bikepacking style rides. So, I'm actually leaning towards the Large (I assume slightly more stability, more room for frame bags, etc). I can't test ride this bike because no local dealers have them due to Covid - I'll need to purchase it sight unseen from a dealer far away.

I'm coming off an older Specialized Epic FS which I had in their Medium. It's been a great bike for me. I also ride a Specialized Diverge gravel bike in their 56cm size and it's fine for me (but any bigger and it would be too big).

Just wondering if riders (ideally of similar dimensions) that have ridden a newer Scale RC 900 bike might have any input. Thanks!

hey there, I got one in size L. The scale frame is a bit old school according to today progressive geo, 69.5 degree ht angle and a short reach. My height is 180 cm and the bike feels real snappy, you tend to be more over the handlebar than in a centered position, so I guess that if you go for the M size it will be a bit too cramped.
Maybe you should check the reach measurements of your past bikes and compare them to the Scale frame in order to have a better idea of what could work better for you.
Take into account the effective reach and the fact that the medium size comes with a 70mm long steam and the size large size with an 80mm.

Thanks for that input. Yes, I've been looking at the specs compared to my current bikes with the geometrygeeks.bike website. Definitely leaning towards the Large size. Now I just have to find one!

yes, I also think that the large size is the most suitable for your intended use. Enjoy!
For sure. FWIW, I wrote a guy who was featured on bikepacking.com with that bike. Turns out he works for Scott - he's just slightly shorter than me and uses a Large - says it's perfect. So large for sure.

I am a "medium" per the Scott calculator (69" and inseam 32") and with my new Scale the medium is far from being a tight fit in terms of height or reach.

I replaced the front tire with a Maxxis Minion DHF and added a PNW dropper post and the bike works well for me.
