I got the same one

lol...I think I got an email last year from the same person. I was selling a bike and this clown wrote an email much like that. Good you didnt fall for it. The annoying thing is, this person is so dumb, I mean, make it worth reading at least.
Be Careful
So are you better off not responding at all, or responding with something like "I don't deal with scammers"?
Okay, I'll bite. You have the frame, they have the money. What's the scam?

a scam is not necessarily a scam gone all the way...just the intent makes it a scam.

So are you better off not responding at all said:
i think ill write something like, "you got it. send the check for $5000 and ill send the frame right over", see what kinda response i get.
be careful....
I always get those scammer emails when I put something up ..

You can read about Cashier Check scams here. Long story short the checks are always fake. But you bank won't tell you until weeks later. So then you end up being out your product and the cash.

If you can edit your ad, just put the bike wont be shipped until CC clears your bank

The crappy thing is that it usually clears. You won't find out its fraudulent until a month later....usually after you've spent the money and shipped out your product.
I've gotten the same type of poorly written responses to ads I've placed. I've replied "sure I'l be glad to accept a cashiers check" to lead them on. After a delay of a day or two I get another email from the same sender but it's much more clearly written....as if they went and got sombody else (with the brains) to seal the deal.

I've played with them in a few different ways but the best way is to respond with the simple words "PAYPAL ONLY" and they'l disappear forever.
Laundering Scam?

I've received e-mails like this, not just for bikes, and often completely unsolicited.I think it's a similar scam to the one where they e-mail you claiming to want to put you as the beneficiary to an estate..."I am from South Africa/the British Gov't/the Egyptian Consulate, etc. and am in need of your assistance"...sound familiar? Not sure if anyone has actually blown the lid off of this one yet,but my theory is that the scam is to launder dirty/unusable money (from drugs, stolen goods, robberies, etc),maybe buy a bunch of bikes and other goods via personal ads and have their own "online pawn shop" or the likes to sell said goods for "clean" money.Bikes seem to be a good screen too....worth a decent bundle but without the messy title exchange/personal contact and paper trails of an automobile. If you sell to them you may indeed get paid, but with the unlaundered,"dirty" money which could possibly lead to your being charged for a crime which you know nothing about.Plus, how the frig are you supposed to know what a cashiers check from Scotland looks like?Easier to pass off phoney bills/checks that way if you aren't a reputable dealer who is used to doing sales overseas.I don't actually know $-h!t from shampoo, just thought I'd bust out with a paranoid conspiracy theory.May be true though....

Not that I want to see anyone riped off, but it used to be "buyer's beware". Sad to see it's become "seller's beware." If the cashier's check is from America you can verify funds w/ the bank before you ship. But I don't really think you want to call Scotland, so don't even deal w/ people off our shores. It's not worth it, is it?

MEOW
scammers what are you talking about?

Whenever I get those "legit" emails I always send the following response....

"Thanksyou for sanding the check from Western Union. Before I ship the complete biike I first send you the front wheel. Along with a check additional ten thousand dollars on top of what I'm sending back to you from leftover from Western Union check from yuo. I am sending the fronted wheel first so it will lower your customs duty tax to a small fee instead of the larging fee for an ecxotic bike. After recieving the check back from you for the additional $10000 francs I will knowing that you got the wheel okee dokee. I will then send thee rest of the bike and claim it was "lost" in shipping and you have the front wheel to "prove" to them that I did indeed ship the bike originally and they mussed up while in transit. You will not have to paying the large customs duty fii since it will be "they are" fault. Thankyou."
Lol, nice one

Usualy, when I get pissed that Mr. kofi adaya likes me and wants my bank account info, I usually reply like this:

F*** you a****le and F*** all you *&($% scammers. bye..
ps: welcome to my spam box a*****e

And no, I don't use astericks etc, I spell well.

ONCE I got a reply saying I had no manners and I shouldn't reply like that to random pple who email me. BTW, this was from a fellow who had told me to send my account info to soem random idiot in Nigeria...LMAO...Anywayz, I emailed him back to try me so I could report his @s$ to the authorities (i know I couldn't do anything with the info I had, but it was worth a shot) and told him I had a friend working on international scammers (fake) etc. He didn't respond.

One of the key words here that should raise a red SCAM! flag is "shipping agent".

At this point I like to respond...Yes I will gladly accept your cashiers check and you can send it to...

Perhaps this should be a "sticky" post somewhere, just to remind the people of some of the dangers of posting articles for sale here.
Are they really dumbasses?

I mean, there MUST be tons of people who fall for these emails, otherwise the scammers wouldn't be so prevalent.
My buddy fell for this scam. You can read about it here:
