I have a 04 scalpel 900 that i have upgraded to about 26lbs. I am committed at this point to do one more major upgrade with the hopes of not only making this 25, but making it "feel" like a 25. so my question is this: the stock wheels are mavic 117's. would i feel more a difference upgrading the wheels to some from oddsnendos at around 1650g, or by getting marta sl's, both of which cost about the same and will shave, by my estimates, almost a pound, with the martas saving a bit more than the wheels. I know the obvious answer is going to be the wheels because of rotational mass, but would more weight saving from other rparts of the bike make more of a diff than less weight saving from just wheels? Thanks!

The hub on the lefty of my Scalpel was crap. The drag was noticable when free spinning the wheel. I bought the oddsnendos wheel with woodman hub and it was better than I thought it could be. I could spin a one or two gears higher on the climbs with the same effort. To answer your question: yes, there is more to it than weight. The superior hub makes a big difference in rolling resistance for this wheel.

Thanks

for letting me know from first hand experience...I just ordered my woodman/717 from Mike, can't wait to try it out! Anyone else have any input on how much of a difference in "feel" a new wheelset would be in comparison to shaving possibly more weight but from other parts of the bike ie seat, brakes, etc?

Sounds like there's something wrong with your Lefty hub. I happen to have a wheelset with a front Cannondale Competition front hub (made by DT Swiss if I'm not mistaken). It's very smooth just like my CrossMax SL Lefty hub.
