Santa Cruz Tour de Dave

My friends and I went do to SC to explore Wilder and met another friend at Twin Gates. I had done a couple of rides with the NORBA/Norcal HS camp but nothing extensive, in Cowell. While sorting through maps a rider came by and asked if we needed directions. We talked for a minute and he invited us to do his ride in Cowell. He took us in, round and round and up and down and I saw places I had seen before. Nothing but fun.
An hour and a half later we were all smiles and Dave gave us directions back up to Empire/Twin Gates. we rode Wilder, seeking and finding the Enchanted Loop and the Eucalyptus Loop but really dug about 300 yards of Old Cabin and the climb out.

The day was clearly made by Dave. We toasted him at Casa Cabanas and dubbed all future rides in Santa Cruz to be further stages in the Tour de Dave.

Mike,
Was Pogonip (sp?) mentioned as the area in H.Cowell near Hwy 9? You'd surely have smiles for miles if it was. K-Max, his lovely wife & Paul J, met us their to show us around on the 2nd of a 3 day SC tour a couple years ago. We rode Niscene Marks Friday afternoon coming in, made camp (ok, it was an RV) @ the Catillian Gardens (near Felton?)

Sat. AM rode right out of camp and onto the Roaring Camp RR tracks to the meeting point on 9, went up & around thru Pogonip (def good to have someone familiar with those trials   ), then on up thru UCSC, Greywhale (Mailbox? Ejector Hill? yee-hawww!) and ended up in the upper part of Wilder where we thanked them for the tour and parted ways. They were going to stay up and loop back down to the starting point. The four of us, on the other hand, continued our trek down the hill to Hwy 1 & headed to the SC Boardwalk for some refreshments & people watching while waiting for the train to take us back up the hill. It was great, plunked our bikes in a designated area of one coach, and settled down in an open "sight seeing" car for the winding trip back up the canyon. Got off the train at RC turn-around and pedaled back to our camp.

Sun. AM, we headed back North, stopping @ Soquel Demo Forest for some more fun. A weekend I'll not forget.
