Sandia Ranger District - Stage II Fire Restrictions Start Today

1980 Views 17 Replies 11 Participants Last post by  notaknob
Started at 8am this morning. Doesn't really affect riding mtn bikes unless you have a motor attached and/or you were planning on having a camp fire or smoking while you rode....

The full Order is here. Basically, no campfires, smoking outside of a vehicle, motorized off forest roads (no motos allowed on trails), etc.

The fire guys say they don't think we'll go into closure this year as they're already seeing moisture/buildup to the east on some afternoons and are hoping they set up and give us the much needed moisture before the fuels reach the level that we start closures.

Let's keep our fingers crossed and hope for the rain to come.

Cheers,

Kerry

Fingers, toes, legs, hands, knees, elbows, butt cheeks ALL crossed!
I'm praying for rain because we are headed up there right after the 4th of July.
Nice little shower here in the East Mtns. today. Cool and moist right now.:thumbsup:We need lots more. It would be sweet if we werent closed down ths year.

that is so good to hear Steve.

we were hanging out at Aspen Vista after a nice REM romp and received a much welcomed rain shower.
Any more updates... seems like we're getting sprinkles up there. Saturday's ride was hot, but the trail had been swept clean by rain at some point.

Still stage 2. But there is some nice rain here right now. Need lots more.
I think we dodged the bullet: 3.83 inches up near Faulty Trail @1740. Hmmm, might have some washed out sections...
Almost 4"? That's awesome. I had the day off so have been in town. Would like to see how the rain has treated those climbing turns/berms on the new trail. You still going out there tomorrow morning? If so, maybe Ryan and I can join you mid-morning. Maybe see if we can pack those turns down.

Actually up to 4.02 inches at 1845. Gotta see the trail after some rain. I assume S14 got dumped on also - maybe mtbike52 has a report?. I should be down there between 0730 and 0800.
Nothing like 4 in. Just a nice steady rain. Around 3/4 in. over this way. Love it! From the sound of the thunder, Cedro might have got more.
Notaknob was last seen floating down Frost Rd on a beer keg raft..

The remodeled sections of KotM were in much better shape at 8am this morning than they were the last couple of weeks. But still fluffy, and in a few places, deep fluff. So, it could've used more rain, but I don't know about 4". That might've wreaked some havoc.

The descent was a lot firmer, too.
Sandia RD fire restrictions over as of today. Press release here.
Ditto in Taos

Same with the Carson. It'll be nice to have a campfire again.
