I am coming out to San Diego (Spring Valley) in 3 weeks. Should I road ride, or Mt bike? Any idea of the good trails/ loops to hit and a place to rent a high end bike? Thanks.

If you come to Spring Valley, you should ride Noble Canyon.

If you were coming to north San Diego County area, I'd recommend your road bike. But Spring Valley is considered east couny so bring your mountain bike and hit Noble Canyon, Cuyamaca, Anderson Truck Trail...all within 30 minutes of your place.
