My LBS has a 2018 model in my size marked down from $5100 to $2900. Obviously the downside is I can't ride it first. This is Northern Utah so lots of big climbs followed by long descents. I can't find many reviews on this bike.

This is around the price range I was looking at so how does it compare to other bikes in the same range (Stumpjumper, Fuel EX, YT/Canyon offerings)?

That's a great deal for a very well-respected bike.

Good parts list aside, I've read some reviews of that bike that were extremely positive.

Seems like a decent price on a pretty good all around package. It's somewhat conservative for a bike with that amount of travel and the only review I read (Pinkbike's) said that the climb switch was necessary. If I were you I'd probably hold out and see if you can try the offerings at the same price range from the makers you list. As you're in Utah, I'd see if you can try a Fezzari La Sal Peak. Most reviews seem to love it as an all around bike and you can get a built (with NX admittedly) for not much more.

i have 2016 horse thief, my first carbon bike, I love it. Have no idea about the comparison to redpoint, but mine is great climber, fast, plenty of travel, easy to pedal, good downhill, love my salsa...

I have a '17 Redpoint that has been lot's of fun,even raced a few enduros with it. Swapped out the rear shock to a Cane Creek DB Coil IL and a Push ACS3 coil kit for the Pike.With a few light parts it comes in at 28.4# with pedals.

I do use the climb switch on the DBcoil on the steeper pitches to keep the seattube angle upright as it is on the slacker side of what is considered optimal.If you use the stock Monarch I would set the sag at 25% and run a 30t chainring to get a bit more anti-squat.

I'm not sure if I would call the bike "conservative" as my small frame has has a longer reach than some medium "modern" bikes and 66.5 head angle is not steep by any means.
