Anyone use Saint Shifters on their XC ride? Am looking into a pair. I know they are intended for DH and FR but like their looks and the fact they do not have the gear windows. Any reason not to use on a XC bike? Thanks.

On the current SLX and XT shifters, you can remove the gear windows (covers are included).

The only reason I'd say not to use them is the weight...

I thought weight but the site I was looking at actually has the Saints as being lighter than the XT shifters.

So, did you use the Saints for XC? I was planning on the same.. Found a good deal for a 1x9 setup.. Don't see a big downside.. Am I missing something here? They weight about the same as an xt pod, and look better in my mind.

Went from xtr to saint on my bike and the only downside was losing the ability to upshift several gears at a time.

Do they have shorter "throws" than the xtr's?

At least the levers seemed to be a bit shorter which reduces the leverage ratio and makes shifting require a bit more force. Don't really know about throw, but I think the saint levers feel a bit more "sramish" compared to other Shimano offerings.
