rusty bike

I have an old mountain bike I've been using for commuting around college that's gotten rusty from being left outside. I was thinking that fixing it up would be a good way to learn my way around a bike. Are there any good websites that would provide a good starting point for this? I wanted to fix the rust, upgrade the drivetrain, put on disk brakes, and install a new fork.
