Rune build - Chromag STOKE!

Parts are piling up, lots of fun stuff. But by far, the bling that I'm most excited about is the Chromag cockpit that I'll be running. No one seems to be anywhere near the level of style and functionality that Chromag is putting together right now. It's dark and dumping snow here right now so the lighting has seriously challenged both my feeble camera skills and my basic point and shoot. Anyway, here's a couple shots to get things started. I spy a box about the size of a frame in my living room right now, more stoke to follow shortly-

Lynx Saddle, Ti rails -

Ranger Stem, 50 mm, 160g actual, pewter with etched Chromag bears -

Clamp in Pewter -

Fubars OS X (sickest bars ever), the powder on these are unbelievable. The white/grey with just one bear done in red is insane. 320g uncut (very competitive for a non-ano bar at 30"). I really need to get a good shot of these in natural light-

Sick... Does the ranger only come in pewter? Between the frame, shock and cockpit I was planning an almost identical build but white frame w/ purple/black accents.
Ranger comes in all black as well. Bars come in tons of colors. Clamp in black/pewter/red
I didn't see those bar on chromag website. How did you find them?
The bars are 2010. Check out their blog. There are some pics in there and they have a lot of other colors. They also have a new bar called the Acute. Its 710 mm and 265 grams. All the bars look sweet. I have the OS bars and really like them.

I believe the stem comes in black, pewter, green, and gold.

ExCactus, I think they have the OSX bar in ano. purple.

The Trailmaster DT saddle is very comfy. Thinking about getting the Lynx for a new build.

Drop them an email. They are very responsive and have some really cool products.

Is the pewter more of a light blue or a purple?

Thanks. Looking forward to seeing the complete build.

Just found this 2010 preview on the blog.
Err, what drivetrain are you going with? Cant wait to see the rest of your build!

Yep, bars are new for '10

G-Air - pewter has a slightly blueish hue

ExCactus - drivetrain is XTR cranks/X0 shifter/X9 der/MRP G2/SRAM PC990 hollow pin/XTR Cassette.

Assembly ongoing right now, K9's installed...
Killer. Can't wait to see the final build.
So all we get is porn but cant expect a ride report? You gonna head out and find some snow free riding spots anytime soon?

When I looked at the Chromag range early this year I didnt see any of that pimpness. Looks sweet.
How did the install of the K9s go?

Sweet looking parts dude!! Gonna be an Err bling build for sure. Though I expect nothing less!
K9's went in fine, not hard to line up at all. I need to bleed the brakes and setup my DH/FR wheelset but getting close.

juan pablo - pretty snowy here right now and storms have been getting souther Utah pretty wet as well. Might be a bit before I get to pedal it much.

Did I mention 30.5 lbs with the AM wheels?
You killing me dude.
I am posting a thread in the Knolly forum for feedback on the DT to see if it can be set up to fill the gap. I am not convinced I can pull it off and I think even with a 160mm front it still wont match the snap and nimbleness of the Rune. I have always wanted a DT but it will probably be just too close to the Maelstrom. My only concern is the strength of the Rune since I am a bit of a hack and will drop/jump whatever I find along the way. Then I will do it again and again.
Did I tell you I suffered the dreaded Idler/chain war this week. 3 times in 1 ride while commited to serious lines. I got the new style idler yesterday(good timing) but I am thinking of just going single up front and setting the bike for DH/Freeride. Its pretty much there anyway. I was surprised earlier this week when just for laughs I hit the DJ gap in the yard with the Maelstrom, it sure jumps well for a big bike.
Post them full build picks and get it over with.

well... at least I've selected different colors! ;)

Seriously I'm stoked to see your rig coming together.
Did you face your headtube prior to pressing the cups in? (sounds like it's optional but I plan to do it.)

I'm very curious to get a head angle once you get it built up. I suppose it will be tricky to measure, you could go off the stanchions but then there's some rake/trail figured in as well.

I've been riding my burly hardtail with a fox 36, at 160mm the head angle is 65.5, feels good on the DH (although the seat tube feels a bit slack for pedaling at full fork travel, but it's a talas so....)

anyways- happy holidays!
Hey Err. Wondering if you could do me a quick favor when you have time. Could you measure the depth of the Chromag seat collar? I need to know how much of the seat tube it clamps. Thanks!

Can't wait to see the bike built!
FM - I did not face the head tube. The steerer tube inserted without binding and the compression ring seemed to settle normally. I have it on the stand now, all assembled, and can not detect any binding. We'll see how long the bearings last... HTA appears right around 65.5 as expected, will get an accurate measurement shortly.

Dogboy - depth looks to be 9mm

juan_pablo - blue balls for you tonight! No pics yet. Just threw my DeeMax's on and checked the scale, 31.8 lbs ready for DH/FR. I had not fully digested how light a Rune can be built. DT is one sick bike, no question. But, yeah, I place it squarely in the Maelstrom/Uzzi/Highline category. The new one might be more convincing as a low 30 lb rig, not certain. My only real concern with the Rune is the IGUS bushings, but I'll just snag a few extras and not worry about it much. So far, it looks like it's up for some serious abuse and, like you, I have a Maelstrom for when things get crazy. 1x9 and the new roller on the Maelstrom should prove problem free (fingers crossed).

Did you get any spare bushings/derailleur hanger with your rune?
