Guys I currently ride a 2020 Trek Fuel EX8 with the heavy 2100g Bontrager Line wheels. My LBS has a deal on the Roval Control Carbon 29rs that sit around 1500g. Is the $1200 investment worth the 600g savings and possibly better ride or should I save for a newer bike?

I had same question because these Controls are on sale and widely available, or at least they were last week. They appear to be made for XC use, so I passed on them. The Traverse 29 carbons for trail use don’t seem to be available anywhere.
I've been riding roval control wheels on a hardtail for more than a year with no problems. I did overinflate the tubeless tires during one installation and they got a little wrinkle in the side, but I've ridden the bike hard since then and no problems. Rode them in the Leadville 50 and hit 37 mph plus a lot of downhill hard knocks. They are solid. Haven't had to true them once. Running berd spokes and the wheels are crazy quick. Very fun to ride. 29ers.
I spoke to my LBS who said they these wheels are bomb proof for all mountain l, rock gardens, etc. The sales guy mentioned the 2yr no questions warranty if there is an issue. I wasn’t sure if this was the actual case for these wheels or just the guy trying to make money
Yeah I would recommend them. I like a quick and lively bike so they are perfect for my hardtail, and there have been no reliability issues for me. There's probably some way to break them but I haven't come across it. Never heard any negative comments about them either. I ride all mountain in CO, including rock sections that sometimes shake bolts loose.
I also haven’t heard anything negative about them, the only question I’d have is what hubs do they come with? I felt a noticeable difference between Roval aluminum rims and when I purchased my first carbon rims, now I have no desire to go back to aluminum. You actually might get a better product with NOBL or We Are One rims with a better hub. They both have lifetime warranties, so you could always move them over to your next bike whenever you purchase a new one.
I just bought them online for $1147 plus tax. They automatically offer you 15% off. You may wanna go back to you LBS.

What site?
They come with DT Swiss 350 hubs. The 2 year no questions asked warranty is legit. Just make sure you register the wheels with Spez within 30 days of purchase.

I have a Traverse carbon wheelset w/ same warranty. Cracked a rear rim, about 18 months in. Spez rebuilt the wheel and actually upgraded the rim to a Traverse SL. No questions, no cost to me.

After 2 years, it's crash replacement at a significant discount.

Btw, definitely a worthy upgrade, the EX8 is a solid trail bike/frame. $1200 is a lot cheaper than a new (equivalent) bike, especially these days.
