rotor compatibility?

Shimano's centerlock rotor offset conforms to IS standards, so there is no problem with cross-compatability with other brands of calipers. Just pay attention to the XT rotor track width (pad contact area) -- they look slim, and I imagine there are some brands with wider pads that may end up making partial contact with the rotor's spokes.

It's acutally 1.8mm, but that's not the dimension I'm referring to. I talking about the brake track width, as in the pad contact area.

1.8 is almost universal for 160mm rotors, but a brake caliper can handle a 2.0mm thick rotor if that's what you throw at it. With few exceptions, you really don't begin to find 2.0mm thick rotors until you get into the 8" range.

Backing up what Nate said... standard brake track width is 16mm for Shitmano BR-M515LA, Avid Mechs and Hayes. I couldn't tell for any other brakes as I hadn't got my hands on any other. (Outer Radius minus Inner Radius)

If centerlocks are 16mm brake track width, you can use them with Avid or Hayes brakes at least. Let us know how much they measure.

hey Speed?e,

You mean any rotor with 2mm thickness will run on hayes hydro?with no problem... I have HFX 9 will this be true also? ... sorry i really need to but in...im planning to put a 180mm rotor on my 6" existing setup...and i found a 180mm with 2mm thickness at online store...i check also with the other forum, by using the rear frame adapter on front will give you a good clearance to put a 180mm rotor. i hope you can help me if you have some info on this...thanks in advance...btw..my fork will allow only upto 185mm rotor so i wont messup the warranty...thanks in advance.

Yup... pistons will retract accordingly. Remember they compensate for pad wear, so they will move the pads back or forwards as needed. Otherwise you couldn't use different thickness pads for example (not all brands have same thickness in pads, koolstops are thicker than EBC's for example).

oh yes...very much alive...I tested my 180mm rotor on hayes hydro on rock-it and rattle snake on alisso canyon...and it work awesome.... this is just to let everybody know that 180mm with rear 6" hayes adapter really work...just incase anybody wants to upgrade...no washer no shim...thanks to shiggy..and VT and to all with their advice and comment .....enjoy life.. safe riding...peace!!
