I have a 2013 Rocky Mountain Instinct 970 with the following specs:

I still have the original rear shock but I'd like to upgrade to a new RockShox rear shock. I'm thinking about pulling the trigger on the RockShox Monarch RL. I can buy this one on sale for $201 if I buy it in the next 2 days:

What do you think of the quality and price point of this shock? Will this fit on my bike? I can get this shock on sale from worldwidecyclery.com for $201 if I buy it within the next 2 days.

I did find several 1-star reviews for the Monarch RL at chainreactioncycles.com but the reviews were for the 2017 model so I'm not sure if RS has addressed those issues since then:

Would it be better idea if I simply upgraded to the RS Deluxe RL?

A few months ago, a guy at my LBS pointed out to me that my rear shock was "skinny" which is true. It looks dated by today's standards. Rear shocks today are "fatter." Also, 2 years ago, I upgraded my front suspension to RS Pike so I'd like to have RS rear suspension for consistency. Also, I'm guessing that any upper mid-level RS rear shock purchased today will be superior to my Fox rear shock from 2013
