Hi all. This is my first post, just building a bike up on a Haro Extreme X3 dual suspension fram but wondering what shocks to go with. I believe stock this bike came with DJ II 130mm travel shocks. Was going to get the DJ III's with 130mm travel but my hub cannot take a 20mm thru axel. Making it harder to find a DJ III. Looked at the Tora 302 and it seems to be a good shock. Which is the better shock for my bike? Won't be downhilling or doing huge drops or anything like that. So what would you guys say? DJ III with 130mm travel, or Rock Shox Tora 302 U-Turn with 85-130mm travel. Thanks for the help everyone

Welcome to the forums. Should be fun putting the bike together. I've done two from the frame up so far, and the results are very gratifying. Of the two forks you've listed, it will really depend on your intended usage for the bike as to which will be the better choice. You say you won't be doing big drops or downhills. The DJ series forks are designed for jumps and drops, so they may be overkill. OTOH, the Tora is made for aggressive XC or all mountain riding, which really doesn't include any real drops. My guess is that if you say you're not doing huge drops, the reality is that the drops will be minimal or none, so I would go with the Tora. Again, this is just based on the two forks you mentioned. There are probably other options to consider (and I'm certain someone will throw their 2 cents in and recommend something completely different).

Out of curiosity, i was wondering what the difference is between the Tora 302 and the 318. i had been looking at the Toras for a while(and almost have enough set aside for one, WOOT!)
I do want the Coil Uturn(i know ill use it).
For you Coop, i would also look at the Zocchi MXcomp... if you are doing mainly X-Country. for me since i got a Hardtail, with geometry for an 80mm fork so i wanted mine to be able to go down that low.

I looked at the MX Comp, but 85mm travel is nowhere near what I want. Since the Haro X3 has 5-6' rear travel and is designed with the dj III that has 130, I'm looking for something in the 120-130 range. Possibly the MZ comp, Think the new one has 120mm. Thanks for the advice thocarnage said:
