Hi,

I'll be in Rochester July 1-3 and was wondering where I could go for a ride nearby? Local bike shops?

How far is Letchworth from downtown and how do you know if the trails are open? I heard they close the trails if they are wet.

Any info greatly appreciated...thanx!

There are a few very good places to ride right in or around downtown. You definatly want to check out Tryon Park. If you take 590 N to the Browncroft exit, turn right off the exit and then a quick left into the Browncroft apartments. Go to the back parking lot behind the apartments and you should find the trail head. Awsome stuff. Check it out on the trail review section.

I'm in Rochester

There is plenty of riding in and around Rochester. Letchworth is about 40 minute drive from Downtown. Where are you staying? You can put together a 20 - 25 mile loop of mostly single track with only a short road ride from Downtown if you connect Tryon to East Bay Park, via the Wetlands. Check cycle-cny.com or wnymba.org for some posts on this. rochesterbicyclingclub.com has a little info as well. I'll be doing some rides in the area that weekend if you need a guide. My favorite bike shop is www.fullmoonvista.com - they are right in downtown. Post back here if you need more info.

I'll be on a grey bullit if you see me on the trails.

Hi Tor

I've biked Hi Tor a few years back. It's a lot of fun if you can find the good stuff. The Finger lakes trail goes through there, and from what I remember, that's your best bet. Other rides in the area are Ontario County Park and Camp Cutler. Camp Cutler just hosted a 24 hour race, so it might be easier to find and follow the trails there.

Thanks for the info. I had a great trip. I rode Tyron Park in downtown Rochester as well as the trails in Dryland Park out in Victor. On the way home I hit the trails at Letchworth.

Here are some pix of the FLT trail in Letchworth State Park:

There is some good potential for a nice trail system to be developed in Tyron Park. Maybe they could donate some land from the landfill for a trailhead parking lot?

Dryland Park's trails are well maintained and marked. The blackberries were ripe fand a great trailside snack.

Check out www.rochesterbicyclingclub.org and go to the links page for a list of shops. One shop that isn't listed that I know rents bikes is Towpath Bike Shop in Pittsford, NY. http://www.towpathbike.com/ They are located right on the canal path, so their rental bikes might be hybrids or something along those lines, used for riding the canal. If you want to hit trails, you might have to call around for a mountian bike.
