I plan on getting a road triple so I can run a 26/39 2x9 set up on my 29er hard tail. Will I have to get a 73/118 width bottom bracket or will I be able to run the 73/113 that I have? Anyone with a crankset recommendation. Will run it with 11-32 and 11-34 in back depending on course / trail.

Why do you want that crankset instead of something else? What do you have now?

Remember that "ideal" mtb 2x9 chainline (using the inner two ring positions) will require a longer spindle to move it outward.

Road cranks start with an even more inboard chainline.

Not to mention you can't even begin to choose your bb spindle length without knowing which particular crankset you're going to use...

I am looking at the FSA Gossamer triple. Isis compatible. Sounds like I would need a 118 bb as well then.

The reason for doing this is I want to run 26/39 on the front of my hardtail 29er. Not many option in rings 26 and 38 or 39 standard mtb 4 bolt triples for the 4 bolt Truvativ Stylo cranks I already have. The stylo I have has a removeable spider which is an option but I have not found a spider to fit that would allow the rings I want to use.

EDIT: I just saw Padre's 39 4bolt 110 chainring in the 29er forum which led me to look on speedgoat at the Blackspire rings. Looks like I could eventually get a 38 or 39 and combine it with a 24 or possibly a 26 if I can find one and should be good to go.

That is what I was thinking but with a little more researc, it looks like I could get an unrampled 38 or 39 ring and couple that with a 26 small ring on my mtb crank. I think that is the way I am going to go. Running 22/36 on my FS 29er and really like the 2 ring set up.
