So I just got a new V2 and love it. One issue though, tire clearance. Ibis states it has a max capacity of 2.6. I put a 2.6 Rekon out back and I have quite literally 3mm of clearance from the center of the tread to the inside of the swing arm. Width seems to be ok, but the height! As you can imagine, after one ride just a few rocks was all it took to scrape the hell out of that Carbon to reveal this issue. I have a DHR2 2.4 that has a height of 4mm shorter. That’s still really tight I’m running the stock S35 wheels. The width seems like it’s got adequate clearance with both, but this height issue is really a shocker. You’d think a company that was at the forefront of the wide rim movement and supplies them as OEM would make their frames have plenty of clearance for large volume tires. Doubtful it has anything to do with it, but both tires are the tan wall. I would assume the height from tan to black would be the same, but who knows if there’s a quirk there.

Has anyone else had this height issue? I put some lizard skin frame protection at the tight spot to hopefully prevent further damage.

Im thinking about selling the wheels since the POE suck anyway and getting some Bontrager Line 30 Comps that are a bit narrower and have 108 POE. Cutting down on the ID will almost certainly decrease the volume a bit to help with this issue.

Anyone else have this issue?

There is only so much room when combining short stays and steep seat tube angles. It clears a 2.6 which is better than most manufacturers.

It couldn't run 2.6" in my experience, despite max volume spacers / 25% sag in the shock. It was a frustrating experience for me between the local Ibis dealer & Ibis itself. They all told me I was "too heavy" at 180lbs wet and that there was nothing they could/would do about it, despite the mechanic (who was great) telling me that they'd warrantied several of these frames because the tolerances weren't consistent. It's left a bad taste in my mouth with Ibis but what can you do. I just sold the bike with the caveat that the 2.6" size was bogus and moved on.

For what it's worth, I run a Maxxis Aggressor 2.6" (2.5 actual width) in back on a 35mm carbon rim. Plenty of clearance and no rubbing during my first season. Some tires are taller than others, and as mentioned earlier, shorter chain stays will have limitations. The Aggressor has been a fantastic tire.

Weird, my daughter had a V3 Ripley with 2.6 tires and my V1 Ripmo came with 2.6 tires and never had an issue.

I had a Schwalbe NN on mine, and the mechanic I worked with said they'd seen a lot of warranties come through the shop. Unfortunately mine must not have been worth the trouble to warranty - don't really know if it was on the shop side or Ibis' side, but it hasn't inspired confidence in me going back.

You must not have seen any of my Ripley or Ripmo posts on this matter. Basically, Maxxis 2.6 tires are no go on the rear end of Ibises; I've tried both the Forekaster and the Rekon and get buzzing at full compression from the center tread rubbing the linkage boss protector. Schwalbes do seem to fit, at least the last gen Nobby Nic does without any issues. Hence why you see the latter but not the former on stock builds. It's a downside of the simplistic tire sizing scheme used in the mtb industry, as opposed to something like automative tire sizing.

Thanks for everyone’s insight. I’ve appreciated every bit of it. At the moment going to stick with the DHR2, but may try the Eliminator to see if that has better height clearance. Thanks again y’all. Have a good one.
