Besides the lack of a braking surface for rim style brakes, is there any other differences
between a regular rim and a disc specific rim? Are there any structural differences?

I have a disc wheel (Front) that needs a new rim. I already have a cheap regular rim (rim brake style) and would like to use it if there won't be any mechanical or structural problems.

Disc-only rims usually have a thicker spoke bed to take the extra stress of the braking forces. Most "regular" rims except for some of the very light weight models (the old Mavic 517) work fine with disc brakes.

Mine works fine..

Im running a Santa Cruz-made front Real disc hub (pretty nice, despite the bad rep of the rear) with a Valiant rim. Its really taken a pounding and has held up, uh, valiantly

(For comparison purposes, I weigh 165 and ride fairly aggressive XC)
