I used to be the guy who built a new bike from the ground up every two years or so but haven't paid much attention to equipment since 2005 or so, when I built up a Ventana 29er SS. Now i'm looking into building up a light weight, short travel FS bike with geometry more like you usually find on 5-6" travel bikes. I'd like to find a reasonably light rim but want something wider than the typical XC race offering to get a good profile with a light 2.25-2.4" tire. What are my current options? Any personal experience and pros/cons are much appreciated.

im kinda in the same boat. light weight guy who is easy on his wheels looking for a light but wide-ish rim. i think i have settled on getting a wheel build from crc of crests on a hope pro 2 front and xt rear. that alone should run around $312. and be around 1540 grams for the set.
