Maybe just two-three recommendations out of the bunch will do.

Oh man, do I feel old. I knew Iron Maiden! And AC/DC. That's just sad.

OK, your list is interesting, Paul. Don't feel old, my 15 yr old daughter has a lot of what you have, but she LOVES Kiss and Aerosmith too. As for newer stuff, a few I love:

The Darkness-One Way Ticket To Hell And Back, newer group, throwback sound, lead singer can hit the same kind of notes as Freddy Mercury!

Shinedown-Us And Them, good, hard edge, not heavy metal, but hard sound, newer group

The Donnas-Spend The Night, their second to last cd. Don't get the last one, this one is a lot better, kind of a hard, almost punk sound from an all-female group. They can play!

Yeah...it was "fun" discussing old-vs-new Modest Mouse with my best friend's 14 year old daughter. Creepy Uncle Paul. :rolleyes: I'd make a "Tommy" reference, but that'd just make it worse.

Just showed this whole forum to my daughter for the first time. She's 15, has a 4.33 GPA (weighted classes), sophomore, 2 $1000 scholarships already. Pretty smart, huh? Get this, when I showed her Paul's list, she thought he was way cool!!! The Gorillaz, Beck, Poe. And her possibly all-time fav, the Whitestripes. She thought Paul's list was just about perfect! Some peoples kids,,,,

Recommendations? What are you playing?

My recommendation would be to move the spring fling back a week and spend the 15-19th in Austin at the SxSW music festival (www.sxsw.com). 1200 bands were there last year performing from as early as 10am until well past 2am. Plenty of big name acts like Modest Mouse, Yo La Tengo, The Darkness, Elvis Costello, Queens of the Stoneage, Iggy Pop, Flaming Lips, Sonic Youth, The Shins, Pavement, Tom Waits, Etc., But the real beauty of the festival is to enjoy the bbq and discover cool new acts like Mono, Polyphonic Spree, The Earlies, Brian Jonestown Massacre, Slim Cessna's Auto Club, Belle and Sebastian, Kinski, Stratford 4, The Frames, Old 97's, The Waxwings, Sianspheric. Over 100 venues including record stores, bars, huge music arenas, backyards, parks, large tents, restaurants, warehouses, cafes, coffee shops, even the airport.

There's even nearby trails to ride before heading out for bbq and four full days of music. What more can you ask for?

Could not agree more, so long as perfect means 80's geekfest-post-goth-o-rama. Tones on Tail and Love and Rockets. Yehaa.

I suggest Siouxsie and the Banshees - The Scream or Best Of ...

Holy crap -- I have these 3 albums on my MP3 player too! What are the odds? None of my friends even has a clue who Tones on Tail were...

I've got a bunch of stuff on my MP3 player these days, but what seems to keep spinning over and over again include:

Arcade Fire, Funeral
Pavement, Crooked Rain Crooked Rain
Meat Puppets, Classic Puppets
Spoon, Gimme Fiction
Violent Femmes, Viva Wisconsin
Sugarcubes, Life's Too Good

I've also been getting Paste magazine this year and I must say that the free CD's included with each issue are just *awesome*. I find myself listening to those over and over as well.

Thx...Doug

Heh, lets see... right now all I really am listening to is Motion City Soundtrack, Reel Big Fish, MXPX and Less Than Jake.

Most days I have just about every classic rock band you can imagine, from Pink Floyd to the Cars, KISS to the Smiths, Yardbirds to... well you get it. Oh, and Cream. I love Cream. Clapton = Good.

...but you know, havent been listening to most of that stuff recently. Really getting used to this modern stuff. Sadly I even like some Black Eyed Peas stuff as well.

What about,,,,Flock of Seagulls???
Where did you get that picture? It is amazing. For 20 years I have been looking for a picture of my four favorite 80's New Wave legends all together. From left to right you have:

1. Robbie Grey of Modern English;
2. Mike Score of Flock of Seagulls;
3. John Taylor of Duran Duran; and
4. Sting.

Four great bands. Four great icons. One great picture.

Uh, let's see, Robbie Grey? Spotted selling used cars in Sheboygan, Wisc. John Taylor? Seen working in a record store in Great Falls, Mont. Sting? Last known for begging comp tix for the Stones.

Great? Icons? Don't think so!

Oh, and Mike Score? Last spotted on Trail 100, Phx, AZ, trying to stay upright! :D :D :D

Grateful Dead Dicks Picks X (can't remember which one now, but is opens with Promised Land)
String Cheese Incident bootleg live from Sedona
Grateful Dead bootleg live from Vegas 92
