The wife and I are looking for some mid winter riding and were wondering if the the foothills are usually dry enough to ride in the beginning of Febuary. I know this depends on the weather, but can we more or less make plans around the trails being rideable. Along this topic can anyone recomend a cheap motel. We stayed at the Super 8 at the airport last time, but would rather have something a little closer to the trails this time.

Thanx,
Archie

I'm tired of winter.

How cheap is cheap for you?

Your best bet (if you have some $) is to stay downtown. Access to the trails via Military Reserve or Camel's Back is pretty easy and quick from some of the hotels downtown. The only real downside is that they can be spendy.

The biggest one is the Grove Hotel:

...but it may be the spendiest.

Not too far away is Hotel 43 or 46...it's suppose to be in the middle of a remodel and it's suppose to become a boutique hotel. It use to be called the Statehouse Inn and it's where my organization has held alot of meetings before:

The Safari Inn use to be a Holiday Inn. It's just down the block:

Down the block is another "off-brand" hotel, but I don't remember the name of it. It's located in the Linen District. Plain looking.
Oh...here it is:

The Owyhee Plaza is more of a high-end hotel and it's right on Main Street in downtown:

Further away from the downtown core is the Cabana Inn (ummm yeah....you have better choices than this rathole):

The Red Lion Boise is a decent bet:

There is also a Shilo Inn on the Greenbelt so it makes biking to different areas easy:

On the outskirts of downtown closer to BSU there is a Marriott Courtyard that puts you close to Military Reserve...just a straight shot on Broadway...just be wary of 5pm traffic. This hotel also has easy access to the Greenbelt:

Those are the hotels I can think of now that have easy access to the Foothills via bike.

The footies may still be frozen in Feb. It all depends.

As for accomodations. You could trying surfing someone's couch, if you are into that. Do you by chance know Eric and Angela @ Bighole Music?
