i live and ride between 5000 and 9000 feet, but I drive down to 500 feet to work daily during the week. As I am not staying at altitude daily, will this work as altitude training, or do I need to stay at altitude for a week or so?

FYI i am not really training for anything, just trying to become a better, more in shape rider and make the hills smaller.

It's supposed to be where you sleep that's significant.

One of the more experienced coaches who posts on the XC racing and training forum says that recovery times at altitude are longer, so it's not much of an advantage for athletes who train there.
